Fr. David Smith, SJ, superior of the Jesuit community and art teacher
at Red Cloud Indian School in Pine Ridge, S.Dak., sculpts in bronze,
wood, stone, clay, and concrete. He is also a graphic
artist, cabinetmaker, and restorer of antique furniture.

Portrait of an Actress
Fr. Michael Harter, SJ, is novice director at the novitiate in St.
Paul. His lifelong interest in photography was a starting point for
the ten years he spent in communications, including being managing
editor at America magazine and associate editor of Review for
Religious. The actress is Mary Corcoran, who appeared in a production
of a Tennessee Williams play at Regis University in Denver.

The Three Manitous
Watercolor
Fr. Edward Dowling, SJ, was professor of engineering graphics and
architectural drawing at the University of Detroit Mercy for more
than 30 years. His special interest is drawing and painting ships on
the Great Lakes. There are three Manitous in the painting: the
steamship, the lightship, and
the island, which is in the northern part of Lake Michigan.
